Signs of Spring

Looked what arrived in our classroom today!  Mrs. Mitchell and Miss.J went on a scavenger hunt yesterday for frog eggs...and boy did they find a lot!! We are very excited to watch and wonder about frogs!

Area

This week we are learning about area.  Area is the space that something takes up. It's like it's foot print.  Using tangrams, we learned that different shapes can have the same area. Today we made pixel self portraits. Tomorrow we will figure out the area of our pixel person, as well as, introduce the concept of perimeter - all the way around the edge. 

We also had a surprise visitor-he had to measure our carpet in our classroom (because we are getting new flooring). He showed us his fancy laser measuring tool, and explained why it was important that he get an accurate measurement of the area of flooring being replaced. #realworldconnections #teachablemoment
