Happy Halloween!

We had a spooktacular afternoon!  After our party we showed off our costumes in the school parade and had a little dance in the gym!  Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone!

Pumpkins, Pumpkins! We like pumpkins!

Room 16 was busy this morning!  We got to empty the pumpkin seeds out of our pumpkins!  We did a great job working together as a team at our tables.

Once we finished emptying our pumpkins, we had to count groups of 10, bundle them in a cup, and move them into the 10's column.  When we had 10 groups of 10, some of our "smart cookies" figured out we had to move them into the 100's column.  Wow!  We are really good at counting by 100's, 10's and 1's.

Manitoba Animal Research

Today we got to choose a Manitoba animal we are interested in learning about.  We will be researching  their diet, their habitat, what they look like, do they have egg babies or live babies, and their enemies.  We then looked at books to see which animal we were interested in.  We are very excited!

What a marvellous Monday!

Wow Room 16!  The students in room 16 had a fabulous day today!  Everyone did their jobs, listened to instructions, and we were kind and friendly towards each other!  We earned a fuzzy for our fabulous behaviour!  Keep it up!

Which Witch is Which?

Today, we played "Which Witch is Which?"  First, we had to design a witch.  We then wrote detailed clues about our witch.  Our friends had to guess which witch was ours!  Boy, we have some good listeners in our room!  Special thanks to Mrs. K for putting up our game in the hallway for our friends in other grades to play!

Making Music to Remember

The grade 1 classes were busy preparing for the Remembrance Day assembly today with Ms. Remple.  The grade 1 students will be performing at the assembly.

Guest Reader

Today we had a special treat!  We began our day listening to Mrs. White, author of "A Bug's Dream."  She read us her story, and we learned who she named the characters after, and how she made the illustrations.  What a fabulous start to the day!

Patterns! Patterns! We are experts at patterns!

In Room 16, we have been learning all about patterns!  We know that the "core" of the pattern always repeats itself, and we know how to extend and label patterns.  We had a lot of fun creating 2 and 3 part Halloween patterns.  Ask me to create one for you!

A Haiku Deck for You: Fall

Here is the book we made today . . .

We LOVE school!  Today, we made a book all about Fall!  We didn't use a pencil and paper . . . we used Mrs. Hardy's iPad!  Our book is about all of the things we see in the Fall.  We wrote on the iPad and used pictures to match our words!  It was really fun!

Spooooky Stories

Today we read a spooky Halloween story called, "Old Devil Wind."  We got to make sound effects and actions to enhance our spoooky story experience!  We had so much fun!

Bus Ridership

Today, bus driver Bob talked to us about riding on a school bus safely, how to get on and off the bus safely, about emergency exits, and about respecting the bus driver.  He taught us lots of important things we need to know when riding the school bus.

Madame came in today and talked to us about what good listeners do.  We learned that good listeners sit criss cross apple sauce, look at the speaker, listen to what he/she is saying, and our brains need to be thinking about what is being said.

Working hard, playing hard!  Finish up Friday Fun is one of our favourite times of the week!

Young artists at work!  We were very excited to take out our professional water colour paints today.  We learned how crayon wax repels paint, while paper absorbs it - all while creating master pieces!  We can't wait to see how they turn out!

Today was our first day of Read to Someone!  We had to pick our partner all by ourselves.  To pick a partner, you first need to give the signal, make eye contact with one other person, next one person walks over to the other and asks: will you be my partner?  The only acceptable answer is yes!  We are looking forward to doing it again tomorrow!
