Morning Routine
Every morning in Grade 1, we are working on "growing our brains" and becoming independent. When we first come into the room children need to show Mrs. Hardy their RAH, change their books, answer their "daily data" question on the smart board, and get started on their "mind bender problem." We are getting better and better at our morning routine every day.
ABC Song: The Letter L, "The Lovely Letter L" by StoryBots
We had the "Story Bots" help us learn about the letter "L." We learned about the sound "L" makes, words that start with the letter "L" and, how to print the letter "L". Please look up "Story Bots" on You tube to learn about the other letters of the alphabet.

Congratulations! We made it!
Congratulations Room 16! You officially made it through your first week as grown-up grade 1 students!
Mr. McKinnon was away this afternoon, but this didn't stop us from having a super fun time in gym class.
We had music today, and had a lot of fun singing and dancing with Ms. Remple.
We had our very first Libby class today and we welcomed back Mrs. Wood! Mrs. Wood read us 2 stories and we learned how to use shelf markers when looking for a book. Shelf markers help us to keep the library neat and tidy. We are all ready to take books out on our next visit.
Have a safe and happy weekend grade 1's! We will see your smiling faces on Monday morning!😊

Dot Day
Today we celebrated International Dot Day! We read:
We learned that authors write stories for two reasons: for fun and because they have an important message for the reader. Mr. Reynolds wanted us to know that we should never sat "I can't," but always try our best. We also watched the video for "The Dot Song" on YouTube:

Welcome to grade 1!
We had a fabulous first day here in room 16! We made new friends, tried our best, and made our parents proud! Today we exercised our brains created our classroom promise. We are learning together and growing together!
We shared some of our "important poems," and learned 3 new reading strategies: check for understanding, back up and re-read and tune into interesting words. Here are a few snapshots from our day!
