Happy St. Patrick's Day!

When we opened the door to the classroom today, we found quite the disaster!  A leprechaun must have had a lot of fun avoiding our traps...he left us a little treat to enjoy at the end of the day😊.

How to catch a leprechaun

Today we designed traps to see if we could catch a leprechaun tonight. We used the information we have learned about objects and materials (different materials are used for different purposes and fasteners hold two materials together) and our imagination to build these spectacular creations. We will find out if they worked tomorrow am.....

Spirit Week

Hello Stevenson families,

Rooms 11 and 12 are proud to present Spirit Week March 21-24, 2016! We are raising money for D’Arcy’s A.R.C, a no kill animal shelter located at 730B Century St. D’Arcy’s A.R.C rescues animals from the streets, homelessness and from situations of abuse. Every animal rescued at D’Arcy’s A.R.C gets neutered or spayed, and is seen by a veterinarian to make sure they are healthy and safe.

Sabre Saves presents Spirit Week!

In support of D’Arcy’s A.R.C

On Monday, it is Manitoba Monday. Dress in red and white. We will be selling freshly baked peanut free cookies. The cookies will contain eggs and dairy. We will be baking the cookies and decorating them ourselves!

$0.50/cookie

Tuesday is Toucan Tuesday! Dress in as many colors as you can. We will be selling bagged candy.

$1.00/bad

10 candies / bag

Wednesday is Waggin Wednesday! Dress as an animal. You can wear face paint, ears, costumes, or animal print clothes. Please make sure it is appropriate. We will be selling bags of chips.

$1.00 / bag of chips

On Thursday it will be DJ Thursday! Dress in cool clothes and be ready to dance! We will have a dance party in the gym and there will be some snacks for sale as well

Please feel free to send in any unused dog or cat toys for us to bring to the shelter to help keep the animals happy.

All week long we will be having a kitty litter drive. D’Arcy’s A.R.C uses a lot of kitty litter, and this issomething they need all of the time. Please send in a bag of clumping, unscented kitty litter and we will bring it all to D’Arcy’s A.R.C.

Prices for our treats are the minimum price, but if you want to pay more and help donate more money, that would be awesome! The more money we raise, the more we can help the animals at D’Arcy’s A.R.C.

We have been working very hard to plan and prepare for this week, and are so excited. Thank you for all of your support!

Sincerely,

Room 11 and 12

Absorb & Repel

Today we explored how some materials absorb water and some repel water.  We read Robert Munch's  book - Mud Puddle, to begin.  This led to a discussion and an examination of clothing we wear to splash in puddles in the spring. Next, each student chose 5 pieces of "beautiful stuff" to test, and got water and an eye dropper. Boy, did we learn a lot!

Exploring Objects and Materials

We have begun sorting and exploring different materials and examining the different characteristics of each. Stay tuned! We will be adding our "beautiful stuff" into the mix.

Getting Along

Room 16 has been talking a lot about treating others the way we want to be treated. We have been reading stories, watching videos, acting out scenarios and having some really good discussions about how to be a good friend, as well as using our manners and being a respectful person. A real great website is wedolisten.org

I recommend visiting this site as a family, and taking the time to have some meaningful discussions about some of the social skills on the site.

We also practiced using "I care language" today.  We practiced using our words to solve problems.
