Family Trees
We have been talking a lot about our families and asking questions like: who are the people in your family? Who are your relatives? We created family trees today, and as you can see every family looks a little bit the same and a little different!

Alphabet, printing and letter sounds.
Right from the first day of grade 1, we have been learning 1 letter a day. We learn each letter's name, sound, words that begin with that letter, how to print it, and we listen to/record where we can hear that sound in words (at the beginning or the end). The Story Bots help us brainstorm all kinds of interesting words!
I like myself!
Today we started to learn all about ourselves. We read a story called, "I like myself" by Karen Beaumont. We then watched this video:
We then got to thinking and asked the question, "what kind of smart am I?"
We then learned about multiple intelligences and how people learn.

Guess what I like best?

We are all writers!
We have been working hard on our writing, because we have important words to say! Here's a sneak peak of our hard work!
Library
Today room 16 visited the library! We have library every day 1. Please make sure your book is returned on or before our library day, so that you don't miss an opportunity to read another one of the fabulous books in our library!
We count everything!
We started working on our counting skills today! The children practiced counting objects to 10 by first arranging a line of 5...
And then added a second row to make a group of 10.
By learning to 1-1 match when counting, and organizing the items they need to count into familiar groups (10's, 5's and 2's), the children pave the way to building on these skills later on in the year.
Today we read the story, "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes. Chrysanthemum had 13 letters in her name. We then decided to find out how many letters we had in our own names.
Communication is key!
If you have not done so already, please sign up for "remind" so that you do not miss out on important information. Also, please follow us on Instagram!
